It sometimes happens that an artist will acquire traditional skills and then, wishing to break away from the past, he will discard them. Pablo Picasso is a good example of an artist who did just that. Early in his career, he mastered the techniques of drawing and painting. Then he learned to do without the old ways and moved towards something entirely his own.
