Through marketing campaigns, businesses effectivelypromote their products or services, resulting in increased sales and revenue.Furthermore, advertising fosters competition among businesses, which can leadto improved product quality, constant innovation, and lower prices forconsumers. Thus, advertising plays an important role in economic development,contributing to overall prosperity and vitality in the marketplace.
However, somepeople are concerned that watching advertisements can negatively influencepeople’s attitudes towards life and themselves. To attract consumers’attention, companies often hire celebrities to advertise their products. Theseadvertisements feature popular stars’ good looks and luxurious lifestyles,making consumers dissatisfied with their ordinary lives and encouraging them toreplace their belongings with the new ones endorsed by their idols. Also, thefashionable elements involved in the advertisement cause anxiety. Consumers areworried about being out of fashion as described in the advertising, and thusfollow the trend to buy the recommended goods, regardless of price. Somepeople, especially youth, compete with others in material ways.
In my opinion,advertising is crucial for economic activities. It serves as the primary sourceof information for consumers when making buying decisions. Due to itspersuasive appeal, advertising undoubtedly prompts people to make morepurchases. This stimulation of consumption benefits the economy, but at thesame time, it can cause confusion in people’s values. Therefore, living in aworld where advertisements are omnipresent, we should promote responsibleadvertising by companies and encourage critical thinking among consumers.
