　　美国著名大社兰登书屋出版社出版的Step into Reading分级阅读系列，致力于为孩子们创造最成功的阅读体验。

　　这套书共分5级，在美国畅销近30年，是一套适合学龄前及小学阶段儿童学习英语的分级“教材”。整套系列都是原汁原味的英语原版图书，书中用词地道，词汇丰富，插画漂亮，有助于改善孩子的英语阅读能力。本系列书籍的内容包罗万象，有图画书、数学、经典童话故事、励志故事和科普类等。

　　兰登每一阶的读本都分为fiction的日常生活故事和non-fiction科普知识两大类，这点非常重要。在美国，小学二三年级就开始要求孩子们做调查类的项目，这时就需要大量知识性书籍、材料的阅读，而且考试的阅读题也有一半的科普短文，所以non-fiction非故事书的阅读习惯一定要从小就开始培养。

　　同样的内容，通常必需听七次以上，才会产生声音记忆。无论句子结构简单或者复杂，只要有不断重复的语言输入，慢慢内化，都可以在意识中形成‘记忆’，最后达到无意识脱口而出的境界。

　　所以，家长们一定要记得把内容给孩子反复的听！

　　“Someone is coming!” Beth yelled. It was a lean, wiry man with pep in his step. "Mama! Papa!” cried Will. “It’s Johnny!” It was Johnny Appleseed!

　　“有人来了！”Beth喊道。原来是一位又瘦又结实，迈着矫健步伐的男士。“妈妈！爸爸！” Will喊道，“是Johnny！”是苹果佬Johnny！

　　Papa stopped chopping wood. “Johnny Appleseed is always welcome!” Papa said. “He always has a good tale to tell.” Johnny smiled and waved hello. Mama invited him to stay for supper.

　　爸爸停下来不再劈柴了。“Johnny Appleseed可是非常受欢迎的！”爸爸说，“他总是会给大家带来很好听的故事呢。”这时Johnny微笑着挥手向大家打招呼。妈妈邀请他留下来共进晚餐。

　　Beth and Will were so excited.They jumped up and down. “Tell us a story!” they begged. Johnny scratched his chin. His eyes were kind. “You children are growing like tree sprouts!” he said. “I will tell you a story. After I help your papa chop wood.”

　　Beth和Will太兴奋了。他们跳上跳下。“快给我们讲个故事听吧！”他们恳求道。Johnny挠了挠下巴。眼神和蔼可亲。“你们两个小孩就像树苗一样茁壮成长！”他说。“我会给你们讲故事的。但首先我得帮先帮你们的爸爸劈柴呢”。

　　Johnny was good with an ax! He chopped and chopped. At dinner, Johnny ate all he could. He told Mama, “I walked twenty miles to get here. Your pie was worth every step!” He winked at Beth and Will. “Now for a story,” he said.

　　Beth and will sat on the floor. They loved stories. Johnny began like this. “My real name is John Chapman. I grew up in a big family.” “Ten kids! We were noisy and raggedy. Always barefoot. And we were as hungry as bear cubs in spring!”

　　“Then there are bear stories.People say bears trust old Johnny Appleseed. Mama bears do not mind if I wrestle their cubs!” “Others say I sleep with bears to keep warm on winter nights! Ugh! Have you ever smelled a bear's breath?”

　　“还有关于熊的传说呢。人们说熊们非常信任Johnny Appleseed。熊妈妈一点也不介意我和他们的熊宝宝摔跤！”“还有人传说在冬天的夜里为了保暖，我和熊睡在一起！啊！你有没有闻过熊的气息？”

　　“But one thing is for sure. I know a lot of Indians! Many are my friends. They have taught me their languages. And how to hunt for food. And how to make canoes out of hollow logs.”

　　“但有一件事是真的。我认识很多印第安人！很多印第安人都是我的朋友。他们教我语言。教我如何寻找食物。还教我如何用空心原木制作独木舟。”

　　Will yawned. Beth was half asleep. Johnny stood up. “Time for you two to go to bed, he said. “And time for me to keep walking. There is always more planting to be done.”

　　这时Will打起了哈欠。Beth也处于半睡半醒的状态。Johnny站了起来说：“你们两个该去上床睡觉了。“我还要继续前行。总是有更多的种植要我去做呢。”

　　Beth and Will hugged Johnny. “Next time you visit, you will have more stories to tell us!” Will said. “And more wood to chop,” said Johnny. “And more of Mama's pie to eat!” Beth giggled.

　　Beth和Will拥抱着Johnny。“下次你再来的时候，你要给我们讲更多的故事！”Will说。“要劈更多的柴火”Johnny说。“还要吃更多妈妈做的派！”Beth咯咯地笑着说。

　　Papa smiled at Johnny. “You look like a happy man,” Papa said. Johnny smiled, too. “I am a happy man,” he said. “I have spent my life raising apple tree sprouts.”

　　爸爸微笑着对Johnny说：“你看起来真像个非常快乐的人”Johnny也笑了。“我就是一个快乐的人”他说，“我这一生都在种苹果树苗。”
